Beds For Newborns: Bassinets, Baby Cribs, Or Co-sleepers?

Bed is the major purchase for baby nursery furniture. The variety of beds for newborn is as large as adult bed. Babies have huge choices of styles, wood or metal stain color or painted, and new or used items for their furniture.

For baby nursery furniture there are some basic types of beds for newborns such as bassinets, cradles, baby cribs and co-sleepers.

Bassinets - Cradles

Bassinets or Cradles are recommended for newborns. It's so convenient to be able to move baby around and easier to keep near the parents' bed. One of the advantages of a baby bassinet or cradle is that you can rock it gently to help baby fall asleep and it is lower than a baby crib. Remember that this nursery furniture usually use for about 4 months only. It's a saving if you are planning to have many kids. A baby bassinet is in the middle between necessary and unnecessary. If you're on a budget, you can certainly go without one.

Baby Cribs

Baby cribs are an investment in nursery furniture as they could be passed for generations. Baby cribs come as standard cribs, canopy, convertible, sleigh and various other types. Convertible baby cribs are popular choices for baby nursery furniture, as they can easily convert to a toddler bed, daybed or full size bed, and eventually a twin bed as the child grows, by simply adding supports and larger mattress. It's a wise purchase for baby nursery furniture.

While buying used baby cribs are economical, be sure that they still meet safety standards and check for any old recalls that may have been missed by the previous owner. Most used baby cribs are still in good shape, and are well worth the savings.

Other important feature in baby nursery furniture is a dresser. Most baby cribs have matching dresser sets, as baby furniture sets are becoming more popular. Many dressers come with a build in changing table on top, so the baby can still use the dresser until teenage.

Co-sleepers

Co-sleepers are an attachable mini-bed on the side of the parents' bed. Co-sleepers are becoming more popular for baby nursery furniture as many families enjoy the sense of a family bed than actually have the infant in bed with them. Co-sleepers allow the baby to be within arms reach for nighttime nursing. It's for safety reasons and to reduce traumatic transition when it's time for the baby to move to bigger bed.
