What Kind Of Baby Cribs Are Out There?
- Convertible baby cribs are ones that can be made into a toddler bed once the child gets too old for a crib but not old enough for a "big kid" bed. Usually, the baby cribs can also convert into a full-size child or day bed. Of course, convertible baby cribs are significantly more expensive on the whole than standard baby cribs, but you're getting a bed thrown into the deal as well.
- Canopy baby cribs are the answer to a four-poster bed. Canopy baby cribs usually hold up a metal frame from which some kind of fabric is draped. Of course, the reasons for buying this kind of baby cribs are usually just aesthetic, unless for some reason you will be placing your baby outside in his or her crib.
All baby cribs need to be registered with the manufacturer, even if bought used. Registration with the manufacturer makes it possible for you to be contacted directly in the event of the baby cribs being recalled, or safety issues being discovered. If you do not have the registration card or the web address of the manufacturer, you should still be able to find an address or telephone number printed somewhere on the crib. Failing that, simply look up the crib manufacturer using directory assistance or the internet.
You need to make sure the crib has not been recalled before you use it (an important concern if you are using an old crib or buying it second hand). As with all products, safety innovations are coming out all the time, and so the newest baby cribs are most likely to have the best safety features.
